BAIS at English Shared Futures: Call for Contributions

In June 2020, the English Shared Futures Conference will be held in Manchester/Salford. Full details at link. At the event in 2017 in Newcastle, there was a BAIS panel with Adam Hanna, Richard Kirkland and Caroline Magennis, which was lead and organised by Matthew Campbell. Several other scholarly organisations were represented at the event, which focuses on literature, language and creative writing.

If you’d be interested in being involved, please email Caroline Magennis on c.magennis@salford.ac.uk with a 150-200 word abstract no later than 18th September 2020.

We’d like to have several panels focusing on the issues that face Irish Studies at present: these can be pedagogical, theoretical or practical. You can present on your current research, teaching or public engagement/impact. We ask for a firm commitment to attend the conference in June 2020.

We have now allocated the following funding, which is no longer available:

Update: we are pleased to announce that BAIS will fund one early career speaker on this panel who does not have recourse to conference funding. We will pay for the conference fee and budget travel costs from the UK. The final decision will be made by the Chair and Council, and conveyed to the speaker in August. To apply for this, please express interest via email with a 150 word statement to the email as above. Preference will be given to speakers exploring new issues within Irish Studies, either in terms of research or pedagogy. You must be a member of BAIS.
